NORTH CAROLINA -- A dog mauled a 4-year-old girl in Pender County Monday, according to the sheriff's office.
The child, whose name was not released, was visiting family at the 6000 block of Piney Woods Drive near Burgaw. Police said she wandered into the backyard where the dog was tied with a chain.
The girl was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Her condition was not released.
Pender County Animal Control seized the dog, which officials said was a pit bull.
